What to expect in tonight’s World Cup matches

Eight teams play in the Soccer World Cup today but only six of them have a chance to progress to the round of 16.

Korea Republic plays against Germany and Mexico takes on Sweden at 4pm. Then Serbia plays Brazil and Switzerland plays Costa Rica at 8pm.

Costa Rica and Korea are at the bottom of groups E and F respectively and cannot earn enough points to reach the next stage.

The other six teams, however, are all close on points.

Even Mexico, which is the furthest ahead on six points, could still fail to qualify if they lose to Sweden, and Germany beats Korea, and their goal difference is too low.

Eyes will be on Brazil and Germany today as these two teams which pundits saw as tournament favourites, have not quite hit the form fans expected.

Germany, champions of the last World Cup, has already lost a game to Mexico.

Another slip up would see hopes dashed across the proud soccer nation.

With Argentina only narrowly qualifying through a 2–1 win against Nigeria last night, Uruguay has by far been the most convincing South American team at the World Cup so far.

Brazil has much to do though, as Serbia will fancy their own chances with the strong team they have in this competition.
