Bringing powerful learning experiences to children

The National Children’s Theatre (NCT) will be offering acting classes for children between seven and 17 years old starting on 27 January during the school term.

The classes are expected run on Saturday mornings in Parktown and they are open to all children who are motivated to learn, grow, and explore the world of theatre and the arts. This is an ongoing programme with year-round training designed to give children opportunities and experiences that help build their self-confidence in the arts sector.

According to the statement issued by the theatre, the programme also aims to boost children’s self-esteem and expose them to live theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes. “It also prepares them for the challenges of the adult world ahead.”

For the first term from 27 January to 24 March from 9 am to 12 noon the children will be grouped according to their ages.

“The syllabus includes dancing, acting, singing and physical theatre activities facilitated by highly experienced and specialist teachers.

“Children rotate from one class to another and there are bursaries for those who want to pursue theatre,” said NCT in a statement.

On the last day of each term, parents will be invited to support their young thespians by observing them in action.

“Parents, here is your chance to enrol your child in these unique, challenging, innovative, stimulating and fun classes. Through these classes, children are encouraged to develop their leadership skills, strengthen their interpersonal skills, communication skills, powers of expression, and are inspired to discover their unknown potential.”
