Man killed in Joburg CBD shooting incident

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was killed in the early hours of this morning, 1 January, in an alleged robbery at the Wolmarans and Simon roads intersection in the Johannesburg CBD.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said the ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by the local authorities at approximately 4.30am.

“Upon arrival, a man, believed to be in his 30s, was found lying on the pavement,” said Meiring.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and back, and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

“The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
