Metro police K-9 Unit arrests suspect in possession of Nyaope worth R19 000

A male suspect will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court later this week for possession of Nyaope worth an estimated R19 000.

This after Metro police pulled a suspicious looking BMW 3-series over during a routine stop-and-search operation 0n 11 September along Main Reef Road.

The suspect was arrested after the illicit drugs were found in his vehicle, and is currently detained at the Florida Police Station.

In November 2016, the City launched its specialised JMPD K-9 Unit, which have had numerous successful drug-busts since its establishment. An additional 1500 Metro police officers will also soon join the City to ensure that visibility in communities increase.

Over the course of the past year, the City has continually stated that law enforcement in Johannesburg will relentlessly pursue drug dealers using intelligence at its disposal.

The City’s Social Development Department is also working closely with communities through anti-drug awareness and education campaigns and will be rolling out drug rehabilitation centres across five regions, with the first roll out scheduled for October 2017.
