They only happen once a month, so don’t miss these events

DELICIOUS: Pretty in Pink is the name of this one-time-only creation from Ice Cream Sunday.

Johannesburg is a melting pot of culture filled with activities and with that comes an array of events that you must attend on the one day of the month that they come around.

Exclusivity makes anything more desirable and exciting, from ice cream to poetry and everything in between. Check out some of the best one-day events of each month.

  • Ice Cream Sunday

Taking place at Unit 8 Microvenue in Bramley, Ice Cream Sunday is the one Sunday of the month – and on the last Sunday of the month – that you can indulge in the most delectably flavoured desserts, ice creams, meal options and music all in one place. Who would have imagined Five Spice Ice Cream and Pumpkin Pie? If this kind of treat is for you then don’t miss the next event taking place at the end of May.

  • First Thursdays

First Thursdays takes place in Rosebank, Braamfontein and Newtown and is an event that will have culture freaks and hipsters melting at the sight of interesting art pieces and exciting venues in the city.

  • Comedy Central Roast Battle

Comedy Central and Parker’s Comedy and Jive at Montecasino have challenged a number of local comedians to face-off against each other in a battle of epic and, sometimes, humiliating proportions. Don’t miss this on the last Thursday of each month.

  • Poetry Slam

On the first Saturday of every month, lovers of authentic poetry can get their fix at Joburg Theatre. In an attempt to create a lively and sustainable space for the arts – specifically poetry – Joburg Theatre created this platform for people to indulge in the intellectual stimulation of a monthly poetry slam.

  • Drink and Draw

What started out as an attempt to attract people to buy their drinks at special prices, The Artisan in Greenside has started an exciting monthly event where patrons can socialise, draw and get their creative juices flowing – with the option of enjoying a specially priced drink, too! Catch it on the last Sunday of each month
