Wits exams will continue as student interdict fails

Exams at Wits University will continue after the South Gauteng High Court ruled that the university could continue with examination sittings.
According to a statement released by Wits, the group of students also brought an application before the courts to force the university to accommodate students in residences from now until the date of their deferred examinations. This application was also dismissed by the court.
The university has allowed students to apply to write deferred exams which will be written early next year.

Wits senior communications officer, Shirona Patel said that additional security measures would be put in place during the examination period.
“In order to ensure the safety and security of students during the examination period and to ensure that examinations are not disrupted, additional security checks have been put in place. Students must arrive 50 minutes before the exam to go through the appropriate checks. While we strongly discourage students from bringing bags to examination venues, they will be accommodated outside examination venues if required,” she said.
