ICONIC VENUE: The Old Johannesburg Train Station on Carr Street will be home to the new Station Social Market.

The Station Social Market is set to launch on 25 March and the venue is simply perfect – The old Johannesburg Train Station on Carr Street.

“The social market concept was birthed to create an intricate dwelling for all forms of artistry in our city and a collaborative platform for all forms of socially-interactive industries such as music, fashion, culinary arts and even media and advertising,” explained Thabe.

He added that the reason they chose the old train station as their venue was because it is an iconic structure in Johannesburg’s heritage. “It being a former train station that connected Johannesburg to other parts of the country brings a majestic extract in the sense of us creating a dwelling and meeting point for all we aim to establish.”

So what can you expect?

Exclusive fashion and clothing items, a tasty variety of cuisine, portraits and crafts, and a broad range of beverages and refreshments are all on the menu, including world-class entertainment and fun activities which, according to Thabe, offer a unique experience.

“We have artists, bands and DJs from various genres. We also aim to work in partnership with institutes such as Afda, the Wits and UJ Art faculties, to name a few, and to offer students who are on the verge of their careers a platform to bridge into the industry,” said Thabe.

The dynamic team also hopes that the market will create job opportunities amongst the youth and general public around the city.

“A huge team is required to successfully execute The Station Social Market business plan. As The Old Johannesburg Park Station can house up to 5 000 people, a firm, dedicated team is required to accommodate the structure of the plan and all interactions that are to come about to the space,” Thabe concluded.

The Station Social Market is located on 121 Carr Street.
